The Quest: How can we manage stress?
The Quest: How can we manage stress?
There are times where you really can’t help but to be frustrated of your work because there are a lot of tasks that was given to you and sometimes you are being pressured to meet the deadline. When this happens, you become the type where you get pissed easily and you blame everybody when you are wrong or you commit a mistake. And this is not the only sign where you can tell that you are stressed. When you start to eat irregularly or you always have a hard time sleeping, those can be because of stress. Stress can make you feel old and miserable. It can also lead to many illnesses, such as chronic anxiety states, high blood pressure, heart disease, and addictive disorders.
But we can avoid being stressed and not to feel those illnesses that I just mentioned. Before we start to know how to avoid it, we must know what exactly stress is and how did it start? Stress is simply a fact of nature — forces from the outside world affecting the individual. The individual responds to stress in ways that affect the individual as well as their environment. The environment that they are referring to includes your job, your relationships with others, your home, and all the situations, challenges, difficulties, and expectations you’re confronted with on a daily basis.
Using forensic technology and biochemistry, researchers from the University of Western Ontario looked at stress levels in pre-Columbian Peru. They discovered that stress has been around for at least 1500 years. When we experience stress, a chemical known as “cortisol” is being released from our body and can be found in our blood, our urine, and in our hair. So even though our modern lifestyles may seem more stressful because of the activities that we do everyday, we now know that stress has been around long before our modern world was created.
Now that we know what stress is and its history, let’s talk about how we’ll be able to manage or stress. One way of stress relief is what we call relaxation. We know what relax is, but the problem is how we do it. You don’t just breath in and breath out in order for you to relax. You must relax your mind as well by clearing it. Not thinking about anything but happy thoughts which will help you in feel calm, closing your eyes while doing this makes it more effective since you are being more focus on clearing your mind. That’s just one of the stress relief that you can do if you are stressed.
